Selected Self-Invented Instruments

  • The Lid - 1981: Wringer washing machine lid on cello-style body played with bows, mallets, erasers and other implements
  • The Record: Hand-made sheet-steel record played on antique electric 78 player
  • Elexoluxopipe-o-phone: Vacuum cleaner and organ pipes played like a wind-driven Theramin
  • The Leaf-Spring-Olean: Broken vehicular leaf springs placed back-to-back as a drone instrument
  • The Bass Rake: An upright bass-like instrument constructed out of a bass neck and fingerboard, axe handle, garden rake and construction spikes
  • The Swamp Thing: An antique public-school turntable with spinning strikers and magentic tone bars
  • The Crutch: Antique British child's toy keyboard affixed to a crutch and played along with other vintage analogue effects
