Invented Instruments
I have been inventing and performing on instruments of my own invention since 1981. Below find images and sounds of many of them.
The Theater
This instrument does not make any noise - I read it.
The Record
Hand-made sheet-steel record played on antique electric 78 player.
The Leaf-Spring-Olean
Broken vehicular leaf springs placed back-to-back as a drone instrument.
The Bass Raque
An upright bass-like instrument constructed out of a
bass neck and fingerboard, axe handle, garden rake and construction
spikes.
The Swamp Thing
An antique public-school turntable with spinning strikers and magnetic tone bars.
The Crutch
Antique British child's toy keyboard affixed to a crutch and played along with other vintage analogue effects.
The Lid
My principle instrument for about 20 years, now on hiatus. A wringer washing machine lid found behind Castle Furniture and Appliance in Worcester. The body used to be guitar-like, but now it is cello-like. Electronics on the neck. Played with bow, mallets, fingers, erasers, and stuff.

The Electroluxopipeophone
Two organ pipes, an Electrolux vacuum cleaner, and various hoses and hardware. Nearly all found on trash day. Played like an acoustic Theramin.
Circular Reasoning (Defunct)
The motorized vehicle goes round and round until the batteries wear out.
Dremellid
Not pictured, the Dremelid is just a wringer washing machine lid played with rotary tool using a grinding bit. Lots of sparks, which makes it a bit dicy to play in some spaces.
Spring-Back (defunct)
More of a concept than a functioning instrument yet. still working on it.
The Raque (now part of the Bass Raque)
This is no longer a standalone instrument, but is now part of the Bass Rake.
The Cheese Straightener
Invented by the Late Scott Haig.
